In the latest KDE Linux build, trying to launch Double Commander as an appimage (from their official site) throws an error message that libQt5PrintSupport.so.5 does not exist. Is this possible to fix? Double Commander functioned correctly in many previous builds.
The error message means that Qt 5 isn’t installed. It was never installed intentionally; rather this was a side effect of kio-fuse not being ported to Qt 6 yet. It was just ported a few days ago, and apparently it was the last pre-installed item that used Qt 5, so Qt5 stopped getting pulled into the image automatically.
This is a cautionary tale about AppImage. AppImage-packaged apps commonly make assumptions about what’s on the base system that can’t be ensured. This is a bug in that app’s packaging. If the really needs Qt 5, it should bundle it to make sure that it’s present.
Alternatively, maybe you can find the app from another source listed in KDE Linux/Install software not available in Discover - KDE Community Wiki.
found mine in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5PrintSupport.so.5
so i’m sure if you copied that to your /home somewhere it would likely work.
Can’t find any similar path. And all libs in /usr/lib are only Qt6.
DC is not available in any other package formats, unfortunately.
Is it possible to install Qt5 libraries as a snap package? If yes, which particular one (there are at least four)?
Or will it be easier to install DC for Windows under Wine 10? ![]()
Sounds like you should report this packaging issue to the author.
However, I see some other package formats available on Double Commander / Wiki / Download. You may be able to install them in a Distrobox. See KDE Linux/Install software not available in Discover - KDE Community Wiki
Regardless, it would appear the author needs some help with modern Linux packaging. Often folks outside our bubble aren’t aware of today’s best practices.
There is a ‘portable’ version that uses Qt6:
