A lot of random crashes

Since the update to kernel 6.17 and the update to Plasma 6.6, I have been experiencing many random application crashes. Steam is crashing, Discover is crashing when finalizing updates, Haruna is crashing randomly, though it appears to crash consistently if another app is playing video when it launches, EG Dragon player. Plasma itself has crashed a couple of times.

I have not had this level of instability since 6.3, and this far exceeds the issues encountered with it. I am leaning toward the kernel being the issue. I admin the Kubuntu group on Facebook, and have noted a lot of people seem to be having trouble with 25.10 which is kernel 6.17 as well.

This is rather concerning. I am feeling a little uncomfortable with this at the moment. I am finding myself not trusting this machine. I have been considering rolling back to an earlier date before the two upgrades back to 6.14 and Plasma 6.5 which was working flawlessly.

Something more specific to your system, as I can’t confirm it in KDE neon systems supervised by me.

Except discover, which also crashes here after installing updates. There is a bug report.

Seems to be slowly sorting itself out as updates trickle in. Steam did a runtime update, which I sort of expected as others on LTS would have been having similar issues. That seems to have solved Steam’s issues. I have been doing offline updates just to be careful, and that has not crashed Discover. I will retest online updated after today’s update. Haruna seem to be the only culprit still unstable. I have filed a few crash reports with traceback.

The last update seems to have solved the crashing problem with Discover. So far, Haruna also seems to be behaving. Things are looking good.
