After the latest round of updates, Neon not shutting down again

System specifics below.

With the latest round of updates as of a couple of days ago, I’ve noticed a regression whereby the previously resolved issue regarding KDE Neon not shutting down after the PC has been on for an extended period has become an issue once again.

Shutdown is selected, you get the spinning KDE gear on a black screen, fans slow right down, but the PC doesn’t actually shut down no matter how long you wait. As stated, this was an issue previously, but was resolved. The issue seems to have returned.

Here’s to hoping we can get it resolved before someone experiences data loss as a result of an incorrect shutdown, as even trying to shut down via TTY results in the same issue.

Operating System: KDE neon 6.2
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-51-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2

Hi - do you have any links handy to point folks to previous discussions or bug reports from when you were experiencing that issue before, just to help check if it’s a related underlying cause?

See link below:

In my case, attempting to shut down via terminal resulted in the exact same issue in my OP, with the fans slowing and the computer hanging at a black screen with the cog not spinning in the center of the display.

The exact issue I’m experiencing now.

If the computer is powered on and shut down in a short period of time, it shuts down fine. However, if the computer is powered on in the morning, used all day, then shut down in the evening, it won’t fully shut down with the issue as described.

Thanks - hmm, are you able to boot into a previous kernel version to see if the problem still shows up? This sounds like an issue that’s at a pretty deep level of the system, so if a kernel issue can be ruled in or out that would likely help with diagnosing.
