I just want to cut parts in my video file and then rejoin them.
I recently got a Mac mIni M4 Pro. So now I use Handbrake again instead of MacxVideoconverterPro.
This is because in Handbrake I have an option for my video MP4 file in: Preset → Hardware → H265 Apple VideoToolbox setting; which is several times faster and also works more stable.
However, my problem is that Avidemux cannot handle this video file (muxer does not recognize the file, apparently).
This is how I ended up with Kdenlive (version ARM).
My question is whether someone can explain to me in a simple way, as a beginner with this app, how to proceed step by step and only to cut my current MP4 file into pieces and then merge them into a new MP4 file. This seems in a much more powerful app like Kdenlive completely different from what I was used to in Avidemux app. Thanks in advance.
It is very simple.
- Drop your file in to Kdenlive timeline
- use the Razor tool (Keyboard Shortcut: X) to cut the parts. Press “Delete” the unwanted parts.
- Right click on timeline to clear the empty spaces between the parts. or just drag next to the parts.
- click the "Render " (Red button above) and select your target file format and target folder.
Best wishes
Thank you for your help.
I guess it must seem incomprehensible, but even with your concrete pointers I still don’t succeed.
For example, I still can’t obtain a part of the video I want to cut out (a clip?) in order to export it to file…
In my search, I have now found the free app LosslessCut and it does exactly what I want and more or less in a way that I know from AviDemux. That app also works with an MP4 video file realized in Handbrake with H265 Apple VideoToolbox setting. So I am saved, although I regret I won’t learn the many possibilities of Kdenlive.
Losslesscut is the right tool for extracting parts of a video. For this purpose I use it, too.
Kdenlive serves a completely different purpose, to create a new video out of many many parts, so it’s probably the wrong choice for this.
Thank you very much for helping me.
