I’m using opensuse 16.0 with plasma6, I can have the add to panel (widget) option but not in the standard panel, so if I remove the icon-only task manager then I can add an application (right clicking on it) with add to panel (widget) and readd the icon-only task manager, if I can do this workaround why I cannot have the add to panel (widget) option directly in the standard panel?
so how can I have the add to panel (widget) option in the standard panel?
I’m having trouble understanding exactly what you’re trying to do. Can you break it down into detailed steps or perhaps include some screenshots?
sorry, ok:
in 15.6 plasmashell 5.27.11 on standard panel
click on application menu then right click on an application it does show add to panel (widget) option
in 16.0 plasmashell 6.4.2 on standard panel
click on application menu then right click on an application it doesn’t show add to panel (widget) option but shows only add to desktop and pin to task manager options
in 16.0 plasmashell 6.4.2 add a side panel (or remove the icon-only task manager from standard panel)
click on application menu then right click on an application it show add to panel (widget) option and add to desktop option
so the problem is how can I have the add to panel (widget) option (as in plasmashell 5,27.11 or without removing the icon-only task manager, that is a bad workaround, or adding a side panel) also in the application menu on standard panel ??
Are you just wanting to create a “shortcut” on the panel for the application? If so it’s “Pin to taskmanager” now - or you can drag and drop it.
this is how context menus work.
the way i see it, in the context of having the task manager already in the panel, there is no + Add to Panel, since it is already there in form of the task manager.
this, of course, does not stop you from dragging the application to the panel as it’s own widget if that’s what you want.
yes, I know pin to the task manager and drag and drop are the same, but I don’t want pin to the task manager becouse it behave differently from add to panel (widget)
pin to the task manager when you click on the icon it moves and become an element of task manager
here before click on dolphin icon
here after click on dolphin icon, as you can see the dolphin icon moves at the end and is part of task manager as the opened dolphin window and you cannot use the previous icon to open a new dolphin window
add to panel (widget) instead remain there and when you click a new element of the task manager, that represent the opened dolphin window, is created
here before click on dolphin icon

here after a click on the dolphin icon, as you can see the dolphin icon doesn’t move and a new element of the task manager is created

so I would like this add to panel (widget) behaviour, how can I get this without workaround descripted above?
I think if you ONLY use taskmanager instead of using taskmanager AND widget icons; then the order doesn’t change. They only change on your system because it launches the app and puts it into taskmanager so it appears the order changes but doesn’t really.
That’s how it’s working on my system at least (I just tested it).
what i’m hearing is that the behavior you want is for pinned applications to stay put when you open them in the task manager, rather than have them move to the end of the task bar.
this is behavior built into the task manager without the workaround of adding a new widget to the panel.
this is exactly how my task manager works and is my preferred behavior.
what settings do you have for the behavior of the task manager?
can you show a screen shot?
you probably just need to change sorting to manual.
if you change to Sort: Manually it will keep the icons in place rather than shift them around just because you opened them.
you can tell which ones are open by the highlighting…. if you don’t see any highlighting, that’s probable because of the theme you are using.
try going back to breeze.
manythanks for the answer, but I would like to have the add to panel (widget) behaviour,
where the dolphin icon behave like a shortcut,
click on the icon, it remain there, a new element appear in task manager
changing sort in manually bhave differently,
click on the icon, it remin there, no other element appear in task manager,
can I have behaviour like a shortcut?
P.S. the theme should be breeze, how can I check it?
googling I found something like this
`kreadconfig5 --group General --key Name`
and others but doesn’t works
if you want to have BOTH a fixed icon and have new instances show up in the task manager, then adding the application as a separate widget from the task manager is the way to go.
just drag any app from the app menu to the panel ahead of the task manager widget and do not pin any applications in the task manager.
then when you open the app, the icon will not animate, but a new icon will appear in the task manager… and then you can sort them however you like in the task manager and you can just drag the placement of the app icons in the panel to suit
you can check what theme is being used under settings > global theme
testing this just now, i found it better to add the quick launch widget ahead of the task manager so that you can just drag applications from the menu to the quick launch widget instead of to the panel directly…. in my test without the quick launch, all the icons ended up on top of each other.

maaanythanks, it works, my error was to add IN the task manager because it result a bit tricky to avoid this

yes, i think just dragging INTO the task manager is the same as pinning it there… which also explains why you don’t get the “add widget” option in the context menu.
i do still suggest you use the quick launch widget to hold these icons together as a group since adding them one at a time seems less stable (at least on my plasma 5 version).
