Autohidden panel doesn't show up

Hi all,

I have an issue with combination of panel option and behavour of mouse pointer on the edge of a screen. As you know, we have three options for panel: “Always on top”, “Window can overwright”, and “Autohide”. We also have three options for switching virtual desktops when mouse crosses the screen edge: “Never”, “Only when window moving”, and “Always”. So we have nine combinations. Eight of them work well, but when I select “Autohide” for panel and “Always” for desktop switching, the panel stops show up at all. It doesn’t appear when mouse is moved to any edge of screen.

I run the MX-Linux 23.3 AHS with kernel 6.6.11 and Plasma 5.27.5 on Wayland.
My questions: Does anybody have expierence with such issue? Is this a bug that must be reported? Is there any workaround?

Best regards

I have the same issue. I like to keep my main desktop in the center with two fullscreen applications on the left and ride side of it in virtual desktops. I also keep the main panel on the left side, like Ubuntu. When “Autohide” is on for the panel, and “Always” is on for screen edges, the panel never appears.

Hi! Could you help me understand what you’re expecting to happen when you’re on your middle or right desktop, and you move your mouse to the left edge?

Unhiding a panel and changing to a different virtual desktop seem like conflicting instructions for a single screen edge in that case, but I’m not a regular user of either auto-hidden panels or virtual desktops, so I may very well be missing the intended use case there

Yes, sounds a bit conflicting. The DE has to make a choice, whether to switch desktops or show the panel. That would especially be the case if you have several rows and an autohidden panel on the top. However, if you don’t have multiple rows, just one, hovering the mouse over the top edge to show the panel should work. It doesn’t. It seems to me that hovering edges to switch desktops overrules the hover-to-show-panel, regardless. I would have to recheck, but I believe that is the case.
