Battery dies in sleep. Even though I have plasma set to shutdown at critical battery level

Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.2.0-23-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 20 × 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900H
Memory: 15.2 GiB of RAM

System Version: 1.0

Over about 8 hours with the lid of my laptop closed (sleep mode on battery) the battery will die.

I assumed that setting the laptop to shutdown at critical battery level would stop this. But the device just doesn’t shutdown at critical.

What can I do to improve the battery life while in sleep mode? Is there a sleep mode that will use less power? Why doesn’t the device shutdown when the battery hits critical, while the device is in sleep mode?
