black screen on fresh install

I just installed the latest version of kde neon yesterday (clean install) and when it goes to boot all I get is a black screen. The only way to get in is by choosing a generic kernel. I have an amd card which might be the problem. I installed the proprietary drivers and the error is still the same. Any suggestions?

this seems to be an issue that Plasma 6.2 did introduce that only affects some PCs and monitors. Apparently it is related to ddcutil, powerdevil, and plasma-desktop AND the developers are not seeing the issue on their hardware AND seem not to understand is actual.

Admittedly, hardware combinations must be infinite making beta testing best done on as many machines as possible.

I personally hit the BUG Jackpot often.

I’m not sure if yours is the same problem as mine since I made my life harder by removing grub and installing systemd-boot. But like you all I could get was a black screen with absolutely nothing on it. What fixed it for me was editing the boot options to remove the “splash” and suddenly I got to the login screen. Not sure how to do that with grub

Yes, I removed “quiet splash” from grub and the problem was solved. I don’t understand what hiding or showing this screen has to do with it. But it worked.

this also happens on a fresh install of kubuntu 24.04

i can only speculate but from what i’ve read and seen on my own machine, there is some issues with default splash screen that gets tripped up when an AMD card is present… like the card is too fast for the OS and gets ahead of it.

removing “quiet splash” does the trick tho.
