Bootloader installation error on ASUS TUF Dash F15 - Kubuntu 26.04 - Kubuntu 25.10

Hardware:

  • ASUS TUF Dash F15 (FX516PE)

  • Dual NVMe SSDs (Samsung MZVLQ512HBLU-00B00)

Problem: During Kubuntu 26.04 installation, the installer failed with:

“The bootloader could not be installed. grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=ubuntu --force returned error code 1.”

i tried to find any solution to solve this Problem with any method, i don’t have any problem with other Linux distribution, just with Kubuntu with all versions.

Similar issue on a Dell OptiPlex Small Form Factor 7020, trying to install Kubuntu 26.04 onto a WDC 250 Gb EIDE drive with Win11 already installed on an SK hynix 512 Gb SSD. Installer runs without a hitch until the end, when it fails with this error message:

Command update-initramfs finished with exit code 2.
Output:
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-7.0.0-14-generic
/usr/sbin/mkinitramfs: 3: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting “)”
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-7.0.0-14-generic with 2.

Seems like a problem to bring up to the folks building Kubuntu.
