Bring the entire audio to the same level with just a few clicks in Kdenlive

Hey!

I am recoring screen videos but also with my mobile phone. The audio from my mobile phone is much louder. In order to have the same audio level on all video frames in the project, I would like to know: How can I adjust the audio for the whole video with some clicks, instead if adjusting it for every single video piece inside of the project.

Hi @MarcelKnobloch, and welcome to the forum and community.

There are two ways to do this.

  • Use the volume effect (built-in or added) on the clip in the project bin. This will then apply to all instances of that clip in the timeline/sequences
  • Use the volume effect on the track where that clip is. If it’s a video clip, it will be split into the video stream and the audio stream with the latter being put into its own audio track. V1/A1, V2/A2, V3/A3 and so on is the pairing pattern.

I think what you want is all the audio throughout the entire project to have a similar audio level. To do that, add a 2-pass Normalization filter and a Compressor filter over the entire sequence. I’m not sure about the exact order, but play around with the two audio effects till you get a result you want.

I doubt you will understand what each option for the effects do (even I can’t without testing first), so read the docs and try to understand the different settings.

One tip: add the 2-pass Normalization filter after you have finished all of your editing, as it has to process all of the audio in your project before it can properly apply.
