Device:
Samsung Galaxy M33 5G (SM-M336B)
Phone OS:
Android 16
One UI 8.0
Android App:
KDE Connect 1.35.9 (Google Play)
Desktop:
Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
KDE Connect 23.08.5
Problem:
Filesystem browsing from the desktop is impossible.
Observed behavior:
- Phone and PC discover each other.
- Pairing succeeds.
- Sending files from PC to phone works.
- “File system access” can be enabled and remains enabled.
- Tapping “File system access” initially opened Android permission settings.
- After granting permission, tapping it only toggles the switch.
- The Android Storage Access Framework folder picker is never shown.
- Consequently, no phone storage appears in the desktop file manager.
Expected behavior:
Enabling File System Access should invoke Android’s folder picker so that a directory can be shared with the desktop.
Troubleshooting already performed:
- Cleared KDE Connect app data.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled KDE Connect on Android.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled KDE Connect on Ubuntu.
- Removed all previous pairings and configuration.
- Re-paired devices.
- Verified daemon operation.
- Verified device discovery.
- Verified file sharing works.
- Problem persists.
This appears to be specific to the File System Access feature on Android 16 / One UI 8.
