Can we have proper mount option network?

Hey , why we still to this day have “add to places “ instead of just left click on my NAS and then mount ? i know there is CLI option but way less convenient and even then it shouldnt be just with CLI when so many distros/DEs i tried does have it from beginner to advanced “manjaro”GNOME”,Ubuntu , mintOS, fedora , even kalilinux “ all of them do have it . pls make it happen ty

You always have the option of contributing to making it happen yourself!:evergreen_tree:

This is the best way to get stuff jump started in KDE.

welp i dont have the knowledge nor the time

Well, you could at least take the time to draft a proper bug report / user story of what exactly you don’t like and explaining in detail what you’d like to change (maybe using some screenshots?), so a discussion can start on that basis. As things stand, you just threw out a quick rant about something you seem to have very strong feelings about, but I have no clue where your actual problems lie.

Rightclicking and adding to places works very nicely for my. Saves me from having to drill down to get to what I want.

i know but its mounting its like shortcut to the folder in your NAS

welp i dont have the knowledge

Knowledge can be acquired.

nor the time

Our devs are unpaid volunteers. It is unlikely they will find time to do your will either. If you don’t care enough, why would they? :person_shrugging:

Maybe you can start by explaining the problem you experience as a result of the lack of this feature. What’s the problem with adding the NAS URL to the places panel and accessing it from there in Dolphin and the open/save dialogs?

Is the problem that some of your apps use the GNOME open/save dialog where it isn’t visible?

Or is it something else?

am not demanding cuz i know they’re volunteers to the project

so if any user who wish’s a feature they should just learn programming to add it ? ok ..

my problem like i said the lack of mounting option

and adding to places its not mount its just a shortcut

its not just apps , even settings wont recognize it for example when i wanna import a file to the networking settings i wont see any of them these saved to places

It helps to contribute in any way possible. It doesn’t have to be programming, no. There are plenty of ways to contribute to KDE: bug reporting and triaging (this is just confirming the bug exists), translating, yes coding, organising events, designing stuff, proofreading announcements, etc., etc.

But requesting a third party to do you bidding for free and then, when asked to help make things happen, you turn around and saying: “Oh! I don have time for that” is not the best way to get help.

how am i suppose to report a bug if its not bug ? huh ? .

not a single thing of what you said fits in this conversation .

buddy i didnt request look at what i said in the first place . you what also not help ? framing a the feedback to make a target and throwing stuff that doesnt make sense

Okay, “buddy”, please stop the ragebait.

The reason you aren’t getting any helpful contributions to your request is this:

If you open a conversation about a feature you would like to see in KDE like this, what do you expect? At the very least, you can expect the answers to be just as rude, as incomplete and as all over the place as your “question”, well insult in this case.

You’re on Linux, I can assume you are using KDE or at the very least you are talking about Dolphin the file manager. Which means you are on a platform which allows you to use GNOME’s file manager if you like that more. Nothing is stopping you from doing that.

If you don’t like Dolphin because it has no mount option, that is never KDEs problem. FOSS doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t fulfil a list of requirements your boss gave to you. It’s a community effort and it is and does what all the volunteers came up with. Also, your boss pays you to do what they want, even if you don’t like it. None of the contributors are doing this because they have to or are being paid to do so.

Because of that, together with your desire, you should come at this from a completely different angle: Don’t insult Dolphin for not having a mount option, actively work towards helping Dolphin get one! You are not a programmer, but as others have pointed out, there is so much you can do. But do not insult the people whose time and effort you are relying on for nothing in return.

there is at least 4 who arent rude or allover the place but you chose what you want to start your assumptions to drop this boss trauma you got lol

no that isnt just dolphin .

that was an insult ? ok

Exactly. At least four people responded back nicely to you pointing out pretty much the same as I did: Get involved, help bringing the feature to KDE. But you’re just throwing around more personal insults.

So, if this thread is anything more than ragebait, use that energy to initiate something here or to install Nautilus.

no one pointed what you just you literally didnt say a single thing that made sense .

if paul saw it as an insult i will apologize to him .

why th i want it ragebait , then tell me how can i help ? not a single thing i could help this one.

I’m with @poljpocket you needs to quit the BS.

What I think is going on here is “energy mirroring”. Also sometimes known euphemistically as “what goes around comes around” or “you get what you give.” The original post came off as whiny and entitled, and as a result, this has triggered prickliness in some of the respondents who can’t or don’t want to avoid mirroring that negative energy.

It’s a great illustration why having a good attitude and being polite are so important in all human communications: they prime your listeners to respond in kind, rather than priming them to argue and fight, which wastes everyone’s time and accomplishes nothing.

I think it’s not too late to salvage this topic, though. @raknie you’ll need to explain your ultimate end goal, and why the status quo isn’t working for you. “I want to mount my NAS” isn’t the end goal, it’s the process you’ve identified as leading to your end goal. But it’s possible a different process could work just as well. Or it’s possible it wouldn’t, in which case the issue would indeed caused by the lack of this feature in KDE software.

But we can’t know until we get more detail about what specific problems you’re experiencing. So please do explain in more detail precisely what you’re trying to to, what you’ve tried, and why it isn’t working.

if my og post came as whiny or entitled or both am srry and all i want as a feature i wished to see here cuz i see it everywhere but i refuse to leave this DE cuz its amazing thats it.

i replied kindly to who were polite .

i didnt add explanations cuz i thought its known thing , and cant add any extra details other than what i gave you in this one :
