Dropped some green food colouring dye into a glass of water and filmed it as it coloured all the water green. Did it on a white background to make it simple to select the green colours and the change them into for instance red colours as if I had used red colourant. Or so I thought but I just cant get it to work nicely.
I have tried Chroma key basic and advanced, secondary chroma key, alone, stacked but I am unable to get all the green colours in the water selected.
Even with a subpar selection the next step would be to change the green colours into reds but the only thing which changes the colour in the mask with some success is the hue effect, however that leaves a very weird unnatural looking result where the different shades of the colour gets very funky looking. Perhaps I am trying to do something which is not possible. After chasing the Internet around the block several times I simply at a loss as what to do.
Funny enough I seem to get a rather good selection of most of the greens using Chroma Hold, but it is not a mask so I cant use it to change the greens into reds. With my limited knowledge of the effects it feels like the Chroma Hold would make a great mask for my purpose is that makes sense.
I tried and I could change the colour but it looks very funky. I am looking for a “true” colour change. When the green colour goes in the water it is a dissolving effect so it is full of shades of green as it mixes, which ideally should turn into shades of red but I guess it is just not possible. What is selected is turned into one colour not a range of colours. A colour overlay of some kind could work I suppose if I could select and desaturate only the green water and then make it brighter. A colour overlay would give it a colour while “water” underneath would give some sort of shades of the moving water. Sounds like a job for rotoscoping (uff). It shouldn’t be this hard. Any suggestions are welcome.
Btw how can I get an email notification when there is a reply on a topic
That may simply be true - though I can use those effects to make the sky and ocean graded shades of other hues. Maybe if you post an example clip some of the folks here who are good at that sort of thing will take on the challenge and offer you some more clues.
