Clipboard stopped working in RustDesk after upgrade from Plasma 6.4 to 6.5

I have two systems running Fedora with KDE and I’m using RustDesk 1.4.3 to connect remotely from one to the other. Recently sharing clipboard from remote to local system stopped working (however it kept working the other way around) and I think this was after I had upgraded the remote system from Plasma 6.4 to 6.5. Now I upgraded also the local system from 6.4.5 to 6.5.3 and sharing clipboard from local to remote stopped working as well. This looks like clipboard handling changed in some way between Plasma 6.4 and 6.5 which seems to be acknowledged in Clipboard contents will not paste into Wine KDE bug raised against Plasma 6.5 – The clipboard was decoupled from active window changes in order to fix copy-pasting not working from X to Wayland clients.

There is also this RustDesk issue Wayland→Wayland clipboard paste fails in RustDesk; X11/XWayland sources work which reports clipboard not working in Plasma 6.5.

I don’t find any recent KDE bugs regarding clipboard apart from this Wine one above.

Anyone seen this?

Thank you, I’m not going crazy!

Yes, I’m seeing the exact same behaviour since updating to 6.5. I recently had to downgrade back to 6.4 because Fedora messed up the packages with the Qt 6.1 upgrade, and I could tell immediately that on 6.4 paste always works as intended.

I’m not sure if this is KDE issue or a Fedora specific issue, given the latter’s track record with packaging.

I think it may be related to this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500366

(I would have edited my post to add the link, but it doesn’t look like I can)

I doubt it’s related because it was raised against Plasma 6.3.2 and there were no problems with clipboard sharing in RustDesk before Plasma 6.5.

Yes. But if you look at the thread on that bug repot, it keeps supposedly being fixed and popping back up with different KDE versions for different people.

If you try the work around that thread suggests of activating a different item in the clipboard history first and then activating what you actually want to paste again, does it then let you paste in RustDesk?

It looks like Rustdesk uses data control for the clipboard, and hasn’t updated to the ‘ext’ version of the protocol yet. Support for the older ‘wlr’ version was dropped from KWin in Plasma 6.5.

I also want to voice my dissatisfaction. When I use Spectacle, the built-in screenshot program, the selected area is stored in memory until the notification that the “image” has been copied to the clipboard disappears. Then the image is deleted.

And it turns out the clipboard widget needs to hang out in the system tray so the image doesn’t get deleted from the clipboard. I have a serious question. What idiot came up with this idea? And an even bigger idiot moved the clipboard behavior settings into a widget that can be turned off.I don’t need junk icons in the system tray. The system tray is designed for quick changes or background program launches. Why the hell does disabling the clipboard indicator disable the system function? Why is this icon cluttering my system tray just so the function works?
