Closing and reopening the laptop screen causes KDE to crash

My laptop is a RedmiBook, running Debian 13. Although the desktop crashes, the cursor can still move. If there are applications running, I can still use them. However,KDE is No reaction.

The terminal cannot be accessed via shortcut keys, and the screen does not turn off when the lid is closed again.

The same issue occurs with Ubuntu, but it drops to the real terminal instead of crashes. (gnome)

Hi! To help folks best guide you, could you please provide your basic system information from the Info Center app? The Copy Details button is the easiest way to get that ready to paste in:

Below are some ideas to possibly help diagnose:

The fact that you’re seeing the same issue with two different distributions, using different desktop environments, suggests that there might be an issue with how some core components (like perhaps the Linux kernel, systemd, etc.) are interacting with your hardware. Has this issue always occurred with this hardware, or did it just recently begin?

Just to check, when you mention that the terminal cannot be accessed - do you mean launching a Konsole window with Ctrl+Alt+T, or switching the display to a virtual terminal using (for example) Ctrl+Alt+F3?

And, if you can identify a timestamp at which this issue popped up, it may be helpful to look at the system journal logs from around that time to identify what specifically is crashing or getting into an unusable state. For example, if it happened at 2:30 PM today, you could use sudo journalctl --since="2025-02-11 14:29:00" --until="2025-02-11 14:31:00" to look at the surrounding couple of minutes and see what crashes or errors are being reported there.
