Crash at import and create proxies

KDEnlive crashes when I import a folder into the project that has 12 subfolders containing 79 UHD mp4 files. KDEnlive is set up to create proxies.

Window 11 pro, Ryzen 7 5800x, Radeon RX 5700 XT, 32 GB RAM

It could be that this is due to the obsolete ffmpeg parameter -vsync. 26.08.1 will fix that. Until then follow these instructions.

That’s not the case. Let me explain:

  1. I import into the project a folder that contains 12 subfolders with a total of 79 mp4 files, UHD.
  2. Once imported, proxy generation starts.
  3. After a while, the KDEnlive application on the first row at the top says: ProjectName/HD 1080p 25 fps - Kdenlive (not responding).
  4. KDEnlive shows a spinning circle where the mouse pointer is.
  5. I have to force KDEnlive to close by clicking the “X” in the top right corner.
  6. A window appears to confirm that I want to exit; I confirm and the program closes.
  7. When I reopen KDEnlive, it informs me of the crash and that there is a backup copy in case I want to recover it.
    What could be causing this? :
  • Perhaps poor management of files that might be processed simultaneously when creating the proxies? Generating equivalent proxy files in the Shutter Encoder application does not produce the error.

Well, if that’s not the case, log files (and even better: debug information) would help finding the root cause. Also, how big is that folder?

Since you are on Windows you have to look for the crash report in Windows Event Viewer.
