Create a p2p search engine (or expand plasma search) for ubuntu users

It would be nice such a project to break the link between web search and cookie related ads.

There are a couple of things that am not sure about:

  1. To search for what? Web pages?

  2. Why only for Ubuntu users? If it is a Plasma project, should it not be distro independent?

Yes, an alternative to google search,etc. that does not needs ads because it will be peer2peer.

It would be distro independent, you are correct.

Is there already a network of P2P users sharing search results? Are you asking for a KDE app to attach to it from Plasma?

No, I just thought it would be a cool project to be done by KDE. I didn’t overanalyze it as an idea, I just posted it.

It is not exactly the thing KDE is known for, nor does it fall into the area of expertise of its devs.

Maybe a more KDE-aligned project is to use an existing p2p search engine (Yacy?) and piggy-back a KDE project off of that, integrate YaCy support into, say, KRunner or develop kioworker which would allow to integrate it into other KDE applications.

Don’t, just dont. Peer2Peer seems like a horrible idea for a public project. If you do not want ads, try duckduckgo and firefox with ublock. Peer to peer could expose users to dangers like ip sharing which could lead to various cyberattacks.

My knowledge of the underlying technology is nil, so fair enough. Just saying that developing a P2P network would not be the kind of thing KDE does. It does, however, create apps that exploit framework-like technologies.
