Hi, sorry if I am blind as a bat but I have been searching the web, the docs, the forums for just ANY shred of text describing how to create a D/N cycle wallpaper for kde plasma.
I have taken the Sub-Artic by Krystian, copied the folder to my docs and made my oven images in the same resolution and edited the json file. Then I copied that new folder into the /usr/share/wallpapers/ folder and I even rebooted the system but my wallpaper is just not showing up. If I click the add new… button I can only select medie files whatever that is.
So I am guessing I need to package my folder and load it that way but whats the file extension for such a package?
I find it a bit odd it is this hard to find ANY doc even on the kde website.
Typo in the .json? Like a “,” after the last entry in a section.
Coping Sub-Artic (the “Next” directory) to something with a new name modified the images and editing the .json totally worked here:
Hi minino, I registered here to answer and figured this might help. I found this post elsewhere and I’m going to give it a try to validate: https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1op6xok/comment/nnextzr

I was about to add a new topic, as this was really bugging me.
I also made a folder based in one of the dynamic wallpaper folders in /usr/share/wallpapers, with the pictures of choice for light and dark (without the mobile resolution ones) and placed them in ~/.local/share/wallpapers, /usr/local/share/wallpapers etc. but they didn’t show in the wallpaper picker. It was really a simple editing as I got a simple one for template.
So you people are saying I should just try again?
Because the wallpaper picker is clumsy (as some other things in KDE). It only allows to pick pictures (and not to add whole folders like in Xfce).
Also there’s this issue (that looks like a bug to me) that the global themes don’t stick with the wallpapers (that would solve this issue much better).
Edit: oh my, I see now the reddit thread and it seems now that by dragging and dropping the folder into the wallpaper picker it should work. I’ll try that but, really, KDE needs an overhaul in terms of usability issues.
Once I even deleted a bunch of config folders because I couldn’t for the sake of me find how to remove a widget from the panel (you click on them and they only add and you can only delete all not subtract, to remove is in a completely different place).
Thought by deleting (some of) the Translations that would be a easy editing mistake (the json parser could be a tiny little bit more forgiving IMO.)
If it does not work in place, dragging and dropping the folder into the picker should not work either.
Unless it ignores and recreates a new .json that is, don’t know if that is the case.
When switching to Arch I “borrowed” many Plasma wallpapers from my old distro (TuxedoOS) just by unpacking the .deb files with Ark and copying them to /usr/local/share/wallpapers they all worked immediately.
[was editing this post and eventually deleted it all because the forum wouldn’t allow}
I solved as the OP, as you said, the issue was probably the trailing comma ‘,’.
But I tend to think that the most consistent way would be for the wallpaper to be included in the global theme change as it happens with icons (they change with the transition).
Like I just used two already included pictures, one for the day and another for the night. This way isn’t by any means 'granny’ friendly.
