CRITICAL: Black screen in Wayland after recent update

Well sort of the same problem.
I have 2 installations of neon (on separate disks).
The main one was installed a fair while ago and updated religiously. It started out at 6.1(I think) with the previous version of Ubuntu and was updated now at Operating System: KDE neon 6.2
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.8.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-50-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor
Memory: 31.2 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060/PCIe/SSE2
Manufacturer: ASUS

The second instance is my “test” bed where i don’t care whether I break it. It is updated when I use it.
It updated today (12/12/24)
I went to use Wayland and it was horrible.
I booted into x11 and it was fine.
I updated the video driver (which is problematic for Nvidia) rebooted and Wayland works fine.

Booted to my main system with Wayland and it was truly horrible. Not to worry, boot to X11 which works fine, tried to update the driver but it was already at latest, so no difference.

So I have a system that only works with X11. Somewhere along the upgrade path I assume something was changed/missed.

This is the first line of the OpenGL in the “About this system: Graphics”

MESA-LOADER: failed to open simpledrm: /usr/lib/dri/simpledrm_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory (search paths /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri:$${ORIGIN}/dri:/usr/lib/dri, suffix _dri)

Somewhere in the upgrades a path was altered or some such.

I know only enough about linux to get myself in trouble, so perhaps this might be a pointer for someone who knows what is going on.
