Ctrl+V pasting does not work in some online text fields

Hi all,

I’m currently running Plasma on Trisquel 11, but I’ve encountered this issue in the past on other distros as well (namely Debian).

Sometimes, while trying to paste a string of text or a link into a text field in Firefox, it is not possible to use the shortcut Ctrl+V.

Copying with Ctrl+C and also pasting, for example, into the URL bar works fine, but some text fields will not accept the shortcut. Pasting from the right-click context menu may work, however.

I’ve experienced this issue for example with the mail text field in Nextcloud, a webmail client and also a social media management website. These sites work fine on other DEs (Xfce and MATE), so it’s somehow related to Plasma.

I’m not sure what the problem could be, is there any workaround for this?

Hi - there seems to be a decent history of issues (just based on Google searches) in the past few years with issues around pasting in/out of Firefox - some of them mention the issue as being with X11 vs. Wayland sessions, so if the option exists on your system, perhaps try switching to the other when you login? (Some Firefox copy/paste issues are more recent, though)

One thing to note, if this is due to a bug in either Firefox or Plasma, it’s unlikely to be fixed at this point in either Trisquel 11 or Debian 12, as both of those Linux distributions are using extremely old versions of both (Firefox technically is an “ESR” version, but updates in those are “limited to high-risk/high-impact security vulnerabilities”). The version of KDE Plasma in those OSes is long unsupported upstream.

If you run into bugs with the versions included in Debian/Ubuntu LTS-based distributions, you may have better luck with requesting patches from the maintainers of those distributions.

Hope this helps,
