Custom compose key sequences in GTK applications

Hello, I have a problem with the compose key in GTK apps in Plasma (Wayland).

I have a bunch of custom compose key sequences in my $XCOMPOSEFILE that I frequently use. These work perfectly fine in KDE programs, but in GTK applications, only the standard sequences work.

Is there a trick to make them work in GTK applications as well?

Maybe you have to set up IBUS for it to work. GTK dropped some functionality recently

Yes, setting up an input method seems to do the trick.

I ultimately went with Fcitx5 instead, as IBus behaves strangely when the compose key is caps lock, but it appears to be working now.
