Digikam 8.2.0 appimage crashes after upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Hi,

I have been using the Digikam 8.2.0 Appimage (digiKam-8.2.0-x86-64.appimage) for several years now on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. I just recently upgraded my PCs (laptop and desktop PC) to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. After successfully starting the digikam appimage on any of the machines, a right click on an image is enough to freeze the digikam instance with the error:

unknown: The desktop entry file “/usr/share/applications/org.freedesktop.Xwayland.desktop” has Type= “Application” but no Exec line
unknown: Invalid Service : “/usr/share/applications/org.freedesktop.Xwayland.desktop”
unknown: The desktop file “/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Totem.desktop” references the action “mute” but doesn’t define it

Is this issue known? And how could it be solved? Any help is appreciated!

What you must do is upgrade your digiKam. The stable release is in version 9. There is no reason for this case to be supported, given that it is a legacy version.

Thanks for the suggestion! This was actually the first thing I tried when the problems with 8.2.0 popped up, but I also had problems getting 9.0.0 running properly. In fact, after trying around a bit I managed to get 9.0.0 running by now and will stop using 8.2.0.
