Discover doesn't tell users about itself — no homepage or "who makes this" link in the app

I’m relatively new to Linux and wanted to learn more about Discover itself — who develops it, where its website is. I couldn’t find that information anywhere in the app.

The irony is that Discover’s whole job is showing this metadata for other apps — and irony is something I’m good at finding. It’s a gift that keeps on giving at 63. Every application listing gets a page with a homepage link, developer information, and project details. Discover doesn’t give itself the same page. The About dialog shows version and license info, but there’s no visible link to Discover - KDE Applications or kde.org, and nothing that tells a newcomer “this is made by the KDE community, here’s where to learn more.”

Suggestion: add links to the app’s own page ( Discover - KDE Applications ) and to kde.org in the About screen or menu — the same courtesy Discover extends to every app it lists.

Small thing, but for new users the software center is often their first impression of KDE, and right now it doesn’t introduce itself. For what it’s worth, I made the switch to Linux at 61, happily leaving a lot of built-in annoyances behind — I just want to see happy penguins everywhere. :penguin:

Long live the penguin — may his reign be logged, verified, and radiating on all frequencies. :penguin::vulcan_salute::cat_with_wry_smile:

if you click on the About tab, you don’t see a page like this?

Hello, and welcome!

It’s true that there isn’t a link for the apps.kde.org homepage, nor has it an “About KDE” page which is a usual thing on a lot of KDE software.

However there are still “Donate”, “Get Involved” and “Report a Bug” buttons which link to KDE websites (but you may also be hitting a manifestation of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522555 which makes them disappear somewhat). There’s also credits of the authors of the app.

My About tab does have the Donate / Get Involved / Report a Bug links (screenshot above), so I wasn’t hitting that bug, and I didn’t credit those properly in my first post. But I think the screenshot actually shows the remaining gap: it says “Plasma Development Team” and lists authors, yet nothing on the page says “KDE” or links to the app’s own page at Discover KDE applicatins. A newcomer doesn’t know Plasma is KDE. The action buttons say what to do — nothing says what this is. That’s the one-line fix I’m suggesting.
