Whenever i set the Adaptive Sync option to “Always” my mouse starts stuttering a bit and the screen flickers D:
I am running an RX 5600 XT, a Ryzen 2600 and the 6.19.10-1 kernel on CachyOS!
Setting it to Automatic removes the flickers entirely and it fixes itself.

I’m using Wayland ![]()
Then don’t set it to “Always”?
What’s the goal here?
I didn’t know that it’s a problem for DP but on HDMI I still have the annoying issue of Automatic blanking the screen when switching from static refresh to variable so setting it to Always and just living with the constant refresh changes and resultant brightness changes is a necessary evil.
I recall Zamundaaa was working on the problem (see bug page) a while ago and I apologise for pestering a bit back then and bringing it back up now but frustrating problem is frustrating.
I’m just wondering why it’s happening :0
I mean… to call out a bug and provide a workaround? What’s with the dismissive response?
For the record, I started getting this more noticeably (Nividia, Cachy, DP1.4, 11-1, myself, but close enough) and I spent 20 mins of my morning digging around for what the problem is, since my monitor supports both adaptive sync and HDR and googling about screen flicker on KDE reports issues with brightness, HDR and VRR across different configs, so figuring out which one is affecting you requires some trial and error. I expect an average user would just assume their hardware is just not supported or support is fully bugged.
Also, “Automatic” not flickering raises the question of whether when I’m gaming on a game that needs/supports adaptive sync to be smooth I’ll go back to having the brightness flicker if adaptive sync engages.
I mean, I’m not saying it’s a critical issue, but it’s definitely a prominent bug of the “not everyone gets it, but if you get it, it is visibly there 100% of the time” variant that is often ignored perpetually when it shouldn’t.
I’m also using a DP 1.4 cable and i noticed that Adaptive Sync IS activated in games and if i move my mouse it flickers a small amount, i’m fine with it but i feel like this has to be addressed and get fixed, considering that i have an AMD GPU as well ![]()
