Dodgy usb-c to hdmi device - medium res only

Hi All,

I managed to break the hdmi output plug on my NUC, so I had to resort to using the usb-c plug with an adaptor to convert to hdmi for the monitor. Worked a treat. Then I saw this item in my local Aldi store (huge supermarket chain, operates world wide as far as I am aware).

The brand name is Bauhn, and is, I think, exclusive to Aldi. Anyway, only aud$28 (about usd$20), and it has a usb-2, usb-3, usb-c power only, hdmi, and two sd card slots. Bargain, I thought, so I bought one and plugged it into my PC. Turned on, and shock horror, the resolution was way off! Tried to adjust it and the best I could get was 1024x768 (I was running 1920x1200 before). WTF? Thought my screen had gone bonkers, but then eventually put my original adaptor back on, and voila, 1920x1200 again.

Bottom line is it seems the maximum resolution this adaptor can provide at the hdmi port is 1024x768. If you are okay with that then this adaptor is cheap, has lots of extra ports and seems to work well. If not, then avoid this one.

If you know of a way to get higher resolution out of this thing then please let me know.

 Ian
