Does Exporting 4K to 1080p Show Only the Top-Left Corner?

Has anyone tried editing in 4K and then exporting to 1080p?

Does the final output show only the top-left corner of the 4K frame?

Ops , I thought I was with Kdenlive users

Not only, you can just add a tag “kdenlive” to make it explicit though.

I just did it for you.

Thanks Meven, you are so kind

I do this all the time, just set the scale in the render dialog.

As @Ron stated, set scaling in the render dialog. It will downscale the full 4K video to i.e. 1080p video. I have to do this all the time because my hardware is too low-end to render 4K videos at a decent pace so I have to downscale the 4K video material renders I am provided with. Thank the heavens for lower resolution proxy clips at that, too. The 4K rendering happens at a decent workstation, after I am finished editing.

I did that too! But the outcome is (sometimes):

  1. as mentioned the video just “cropped" the upper left portion (like 1/4) of the 4K video.

  2. Mac - QuickTime/VLC can’t read the file (like a broken file)

These few days I was keep trying, the issue still occurs :sob:

Admired - you did it! I’m not sure the problems I have encounter was caused by the effects — Corner?

Once I ignored all effects, it seems work perfectly.

I’m still trial and error.

Hope that someone could point out what I was missing :folded_hands:

What effects are you using on your video? And what version of kdenlive are you using?

I could go and apply the same effects to a 4K video and see if the problem is duplicable.

Wow…many thanks for test that out for me!

:small_orange_diamond:Corner , Transform

:small_orange_diamond:Version 22.04

Could you also give the parameters you used for those effects, per key frame?

I only need two keyframes per effect.

So, like

Keyframe 1:
’Corner 1 X = value

Corner 1 Y = value

etc.

Keyframe 2:

Corner 1 X = value

Corner 1 Y = value

etc.

And please give me the same values for 2 keyframes for transform.

Then I can replicate the effects you used better and check if it renders correctly and if not, where things are going wrong.

Forget about the values you specified for the effects. I have a hunch that is not the problem here.

I just did a little test render with the effects you specified. I am not seeing the same problem occuring here. The corner and transform effects render as they should.

Perhaps you need to upgrade kdenlive to a newer version. What operating system are you using? And how did you install kdenlive?

Thanks a lot for spending time to go thru my issue!

I’m still with MacOS Mojave (for some reasons), and was installed from Kdenlive Official Website (Archive/Previous/Older Versions).

Will upgrade my Mac & get the latest version of Kdenlive in future soon!

But for now, hopefully could solved this issue for recent projects.

By the way, “Shotcut” (older version on MacOS Mojave) has no the issue above!

fwiw, I’ve been editing predominantly 4k video since Kdenlive 19.x and have never had trouble exporting it as 1080p - but only on Linux, I haven’t touched apple stuff since they stopped being open (source and hardware!) after Apple][.
