Hey there,
This morning I decided to go through all of my Dolphin settings to solve some long-standing frustrations I had. A part of that entailed converting my endless cluttered ‘Places’ into actual bookmarks using the bookmark editor (Bookmarks → edit bookmarks).
This worked. I then continued customising more things related to file management.
Unfortunately, when it was all said and done, I opened Dolphin and all of my meticulously curated bookmarks were suddenly gone.
I looked around a little until I found a thread on the OpenSUSE forums (which I am apparently not allowed to link here).
Apparently, the location of bookmarks has at some point changed from ~/.local/share/dolphin/ to ~/.local/share/kfile/.
I checked the ‘old’ location, and lo and behold, the bookmarks I had created this morning were all indeed there. For some reason, Dolphin seems to have saved or moved the bookmark data at some point to the old location.
The only other Dolphin-related actions I have taken after the bookmarks were created were…
- Changing various Dolphin settings related to telemetry and display styles
- export GTK_USE_PORTAL=1 to force LibreWolf to use Dolphin as the file picker
Any idea what could have happened here?
