Dolphin favorites

What is the problem with creating a permanent “Favorites” default folder in Dolphin? I would like to use the context menu to place links to documents and folders in it. Minimal effort, maximum boost to usability. After all, they are just links.

I don’t think there is any problem. You could just create a “Favorites” folder in your $HOME and drag it to Dolphins Places panel.

That is certainly possible, but it feels like something from the 90s—too much manual fiddling and rather cumbersome. It would be far more intuitive to simply right-click on a desired destination and add it to “Favorites,” rather than having to select “Add to Places” for a folder—or not even having that option when right-clicking on a document.

Why don’t you make a service menu for it ? You’ll have your option.

You can even get creative, beyond the “just a link”.

Exactly.

In Places, I have my ‘applications’ folder pinned… in Home I have ‘Audio’ containing links to all my various Audio folders… If I download a fresh bunch of sounds waiting to be organised I can either move them there, or move them to HDD and drag a link to Places/Audio.

In Bookmarks I have all the more obscure Plasma and hidden config folders.

These are all permanent.

My wallpapers all go in a /mnt/T4/Resources folder, I drag all the ‘purple’ wallpapers to create links in a ‘purple’ folder…

This way, you can have access to the same favourite files in as many locations as you like.
