I noticed some pretty annoying behaviour in Dolphin. When I select some item - file/folder, monitor brightness will go up little bit. If I de-select file/folder brightness will lower back. It is most visible when HDR is enabled in Display Settings. It is visible on desktop wallpaper, that it brightens up. When I disable HDR it is still noticable, but not so much when HDR is enabled.
However this happens only on Dark theme. I’m using only official theme Breeze Dark. When I set up light theme Breeze, selection in Dolphin doesn’t change monitor brightness.

Hi - just to double-check, does your monitor have some sort of dynamic brightness setting of its own, that would be configured through its on-screen menus? Do you notice that effect in any other settings that might have a dark scene with occasional lighter elements?
To try to maybe narrow down possible causes - does watching the below video in full-screen (you might need to right-click and open in a new tab) trigger a similar brightness change?
But only dynamic settings I see in monitor on-screen menu is regarding HDR, there are few modes and then off.
I noticed it only with Dolphin. Tried Settings, or Discover and clicking away to lose focus and bright blue selection color became darker and back bright, but that haven’t changed monitor brightness. I noticed it only while using Dolphin.
Playing your video fullscreen doesn’t affect anything.
A google search of your monitor model says something about “Smart HDR”, which sounds suspicious. Maybe it’s being a bit too smart. Try turning that off?
