Dolphin won't start and freez Cachy

Hi forum people,

since yesterday Dolphin wont open. It started with hickups and system freezing. I tried with system update and restarts but now its just doing the jumping animation beside the cursor and nothing more.
I installed Thunar to do file stuff but i want my dolphin back!
I run CachyOS with all updates installed..

Has anyone an idea how to deal with that?

thanks for your help!!

You can’t receive help (or try to reproduce) if you don’t say the version of Dolphin, KDE Plasma, KDE Frameworks, etc. Something as this (results of type kinfo):

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20260821
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.29.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.1.8-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 14 × Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 245K
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (30.9 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070

Dolphin 26.04.3

Regards

Hi!
Sorry for that…

Operating System: CachyOS Linux

Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: Intel® Arc

❯ dolphin -v
dolphin 26.08.0

I don’t have this problem on CachyOS. See kinfo below :

Can you launch Dolphin in a terminal (Konsole)?

good so its nothing that bothers many…

If you ment with lauching Dolphin in terminal to open a folder, this is the output:

funny that i can enter the filepicker from the browser… isnt that Dolphin too?
so something works i guess?

Thanks that you guys try to solve my problem with me!!

Which browser ?
And a browser is not a filemanager.
Could you run dolphin in konsole without folder ? Just type ‘dolphin’

You can try too krusader. It looks like Dolphin. And it has been developed for KDE

The Vivaldi filepicker looks alot like Dolphin thats why I thought it´s maybe a part of it but ok…

Dolphin in Terminal gives the same result:

❯ dolphin
kf.i18n: Trying to convert empty KLocalizedString to QString.
kf.config.core: "KConfigIni: In file /home/sim/.config/session/dolphin_dolphin_dolphin, line 5:" Invalid entry (missing ']')
fish: Job 1, 'dolphin' terminated by signal SIGSEGV (Adressbereichsfehler)

Krusader is actualy a nice replacement but i like Dolphin more. Until Dolphin is fixed ill use it. Thanks!!

Signal SIGSEGV is a kernel error right?

My solution is to switch back to Bazzite… Since I was on Cachy i had a worse Gaming experience, System freezings and weird problems like that with Dolphin. Maybe Arch based is not my thing^^
Thanks for looking at the problem but nearly every problem i had was “solved” by “just use something else and let the program unfixed” and I dont like that…

No, SIGSEGV is a segmentation fault in the application. And to diagnose it you need to post a backtrace.

You have a corrupted stored dolphin session file.

The fix:

rm ~/.config/session/dolphin_dolphin_dolphin

As i said, i switched back to Bazzite for several reasons. Thanks alot for your solution i canot say that this workes but its more than i could find in other forums.

Maybe it helpes someone else:heart:

That’s a packaging issue, your installed kio is not recent enough.

Here is what I have. So it’s a distro issue?
