Edit mode for Overview

The desktop has an edit view to organise all non-elements beyond the window itself.

Why not bring the same design/ functionality to the overview and related views? If we can make the grid/overview like the un removable desktop, then everything can be a “widget like” and we might be able to unlock a wider variety of related features.

  • optional search and thumbnails
  • Docks and panels
  • “grid” and “overview “ could be just a replaceable visualisation
  • (I might even be able to pad some bottom margin to the current desktop in the overview, so that it doesn’t feel like it’s on the edge of a cliff )

You mean turning Overview to a special desktop for widgets, like Mac OS X Dashboard, or Window Vista Sidebar? Both were discontinued, probably due to lack of usage.

But yeah, this is one of the ideas that keep resurfacing every a few years. (Tabbed windows being another.)

widgets ? Not really. I was thinking more like moving closer to gnome overview or mac exposé but with KDE customizability
