I noticed out of a sudden KDE application menu become almost twice a big as it used to be, and there was no update to the desktop AFAIK.
The blue rectangles represent the added space that wasn’t there before.
This is on Debian 13, Plsma 6.3.6
Is this something new?
if you switch to the application menu (instead of application launcher) does it still have excess padding?
Not sure what’s the difference between a menu and launcher to test, but I suppose you mean to click on individual items (e.g. Games Graphics, Help etc..) on the left?
No, clicking on them doesn’t make it smaller.
In my Plasma 5.27, I can enlarge and reduce the menu with the mouse. Is that not possible for you?
I swear by ancient gods I did not change the size, I don’t recall doing it.
Anyway resizing it works, I’ll mark this as solved, hopefully it doesn’t come back on its own.

if you right click on the launcher it will offer you “show alternatives”
the menu is one of the alternatives … it takes up less screen real estate than the launcher but offers the same access to your apps.
