Error message when mounting external drive

Hello all,

On June 20, 2025 (7 days ago from this posting), I started having an issue with mounting an external drive. It gives me an error message saying I am not authorized to mount the drive. After spending tons of time with trying to change permissions, etc. I finally found an answer. But, I don’t know why, and, it really is only a temp fix.

Posted on reddit, some with my same problem suggested to do this command ‘sudo systemctl restart udisks2’. And, that worked but when I reboot it is the same issue all over again until I run that command.

Is this a new KDE bug? Anyone have an explanation of why this is happening now, and how to permanently get around this issue?

Any info that points me in the right direction would be appreciated.

is the drive recognized by lsblk -e7

if so you may need to run fdisk to change the partition type so it will show up in dolphin.

Thanks for the info. It doesn’t show up until I mount it. Not sure if that is how it is supposed to work.

But, like I said, if I run that command it will open in dolphin and function just fine. I am just not sure what changed and why I have to run that command to get it to work properly. It used to work just fine.

have you gone settings > removable devices and reviewed you automount settings?

is the device you are trying to use listed there and are both boxes checked?
