I use Kubuntu 24.04, Wayland
Different ext. ntfs3 HDDs.
Get sometime an error if e.g.: I delete a file on the HDD or the system sometimes must restore the desktop.
Or sometimes mounting of a device will be denied (can be solved by WIN11+Scan. No file will be renamed by WIN11, only a scan will be performed + repair, thats it.
After starting Kubuntu the HDD will be mounted as usual.
This error occurred one times every 2 weeks, a minor fault.
My question how can I add additional monitors or read some files to get more information about the error (It does not depend on the HDD, 4 ext. HDDs I use, the error will be indicated on different HDDs.).
from what little you have given, it sound like a hardware issue… and since it happens with multiple HDD devices, then some other common hardware is at fault (cable, controller, solder joint, etc).
when i was having inconsistent mounting of windows drives, it turned out that part of the SATA controller on the motherboard was dying.
the file corruption issues on ntfs drives are best resolved from within windows, but there are some linux tools you try, and depending on your distro there are various rules that can be put in place to prevent improper file names, etc.
also i would add that in my experience you are better off running X11 while still using 24.04… the wayland for that old of a distro is not up to speed.
so if you need wayland, i would suggest upgrading to 26.04, if you need to stay on 24.04 (as i do) then you should run X11 (its just way more reliable).

If you have hardware errors on the HDD then you will see logs in the system journal and dmesg. Do you have error for the HDD in the system journal?
