I have been using Falkon on KDE Plasma as my primary lightweight browser for daily Web browsing, but I ran into a severe rendering hang today when accessing a utility site. Whenever I try to pull up our monthly power bill breakdowns and view dynamic account details from here, the active tab stops responding and Falkon’s QtWebEngine process spikes up to 100% CPU usage.
Opening the page in heavy web browsers works fine, but in Falkon, the renderer freezes up entirely during DOM script execution.
I am also noticing a couple of related interface and system performance issues on KDE Plasma while this happens. When Falkon locks up on that page, the entire Plasma desktop session suffers brief micro-stutters, and closing the hung browser tab leaves behind a zombie QtWebEngine process that continues consuming memory until killed manually from Plasma System Monitor. On top of that, restoring the browser session after a crash causes Falkon to get stuck in an endless reload loop on dynamic forms.
Has anyone ran into similar QtWebEngine rendering freezes or memory leaks in Falkon when loading dynamic Web portals, and are there specific WebEngine flags or JavaScript permissions in Falkon’s settings that help prevent single-tab hangs from degrading system responsiveness?
