Fan continues/starts running after lid close

Why does the fan start or continue running and doesn’t stop when I close the lid on my laptop? I have set everything to sleep for both A/C and battery. When I open the lid the fan stops.

This is probably related to how Ubuntu/Kubuntu’s configured power management packages and kernel are interacting with your hardware (or possibly a defect with the manufacturer’s firmware/configuration), rather than something Plasma-specific, but - does the same thing happen when you put your device into sleep mode without closing the lid (like going to the launcher menu, then clicking Sleep)?
