Since updating to Plasma 6.6.0 on NixOS, I have had issues with fullscreen video playback through both Jellyfin via their mpv and html5 backends as well as VLC. This happens both with and without hardware acceleration on Jellyfin. This does not occur with fullscreen youtube playback via Brave, nor does it occur while using Hyprland.
After playing any fullscreen video for 5-60 seconds, the video freezes until I shake the mouse. On Jellyfin this stops the audio as well, but with VLC the audio keeps playing. When it happens on VLC the terminal is filled with “[hevc @ 0x7ff62507f580] Could not find ref with POC 4548”, however I was unable to find anything at all in dmesg.
I am unable to reproduce on a second system, however the issue persists through reboot.
I believe this to be a plasma/kwin issue given that it doesn’t occur in Hyprland, but I am uncertain and would like to at least gather useful logs before reporting it as a bug.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Can you shed some light into your setup and post the output of kinfo, please? Thanks.
Operating System: NixOS 26.05
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.1

I have found that it only occurs with VRR on, either enabled or adaptive. VRR disabled works fine.

Hi, I have this issue. But with the Jellyfin client, there is no transcode issues from the server. Setting the VRR on automatic just makes this worst freezing the system every minute and stops if I move the cursor.
Disabling VRR completely is the only solution for now.

Seems to be fixed in 6.6.1. No issues so far.

I can confirm. With 6.6.2 I no longer have issues in Jellyfin.
