After reinstalling KDE Neon after a failed update to 24.04, my computer started behaving weirdly - suddenly slowly freezing, until I only could hard-reboot it.
I installed htop and preloaded it in strg-alt-f4 to be able to see what’s going on, and it looks like that whenever a program crashes, gdb (triggered by drkonqui) fills the whole system (memory, swap and harddisk), until the system becomes unresponsive.
Is this in Wayland or X? I find Wayland acts really poorly after an app crashes, often resulting in needing to reboot, but not X11. The first thing I would do is figure out why apps are crashing in the first place.
Well, the most frequent problem was the ms exchange plugin of kontact crashing. That has decreased a lot, so the problem isn’t as severe as before.
Anyway, I found a temporary “solution”: by renaming drkonqui, I prevent it from running and then running wild. This only helps until a software update, but by then the problem will (or maybe already has) been solved…
