Gwenview has stopped working in Kubuntu 24.04

Hi! Yesterday, the Gwenview application stopped working in Kubuntu 24.04. When opening any images, a notification appears from Dr. Konqi in the tray that says:

Program “Gwenview” has crashed.

Send an error report to improve this program.

I also noticed that a similar error message appears if I try to open any image in Okular.

How long does it usually take to wait for updates and fixes?

Hey, have a look at this thread/post, maybe the workaround works for you, too.

It depends on a number of factors, namely your distro getting the error reports so that they are aware of it.

This one is known, and a fixed package is being tested. and should be out very soon ( a few hours).

Since this component is provided by the distro and not by KDE, it is hard to say, but since I have seen chatter over it in various *buntu related places, it should not be long before Ubuntu fixes the libexiv2 packages.

A temporary workaround can be tried: downgrading back to the last version:

sudo apt install libexiv2-27=0.27.6-1build1

This is specific to Ubuntu 24.04/KDE neon/Linux Mint and others. Newer releases will have different package versions from this.

This replaces the current package 0.27.6-1ubuntu0.1 with the original 0.27.6-1build1.

Now, one can pin or hold this package, so it doesn’t get upgraded back, or skip this package until the new one makes it out to everyone’s local repos.

One could also test the fix as seen in the bug report.

Hi, Yaulande and claydoh! Thanks for quick response. :slightly_smiling_face: And thank you for the tips on quickly resolving the issue. It’s not critical for me to wait a couple of days, so I will wait for the update in Kubuntu.
