I have a scan of a file in Japanese, and the text is in vertical lines. However, when I try to highlight using Okular, it treats the lines as horizontal. I am fairly certain that the problem is not with the OCR, as other PDF software properly treats the lines as vertical. Am I missing some configuration in Okular or is it a bug?

For what it’s worth - based on the bugs that have been marked as duplicates of it, the following KDE Bugtracking System issue might cover, or be connected to, this topic: 407133 – Copy text from rotated pdf gives rubbish

Yeah, you are right, that bug should be the same. However, it doesn’t look like anyone had mentioned it in the context of japanese writing.
