i tried to press ctrl+alt+F3 before rebooting. it did not work for me. is there any other key combo to go to command prompt during when lock screen hang, so that i can shutdown from command prompt.
ctrl+alt+f3 dying during the blink is common when the compositor ate the session. try
-ctrl+alt+f2 / f4 / f5 / f6 (one of them is usually still a real tty)
-or ssh in from another box / phone and sudo systemctl restart sddm (or reboot)
chrome can make plasmashell crash on that font bug so yeah worth closing it b4 locking for a bit. uninstall only if the hang stays after chrome is gone.

i just upgraded from my command prompt from earlier kubuntu 24.04 to 26.04. the same video driver was working perfect with the earlier version. only after upgrading i found this lock screen issue. so thats why i posted the issue here since each and every time if i face this issue i need to do a force power off which i am scared that the operating system might get corrupt.

As mentioned earlier, I have tried all the other options suggested by everyone. If none of them work, I will proceed with a clean installation from scratch and check whether the issue is resolved.
Since I recently upgraded from Kubuntu 24.04 to 26.04 using the command line, I will perform a clean installation and test everything again to see whether the issue gets resolved.

Hi nite_route, thanks! I tried all the combinationsāCtrl+Alt+F2, F4, F5, and F6ābut unfortunately, none of them worked for me. Iāll try uninstalling Chrome and then let you know the update or as told earlier i will perform clean installation from scratch again since as mentioned beofore i upgraded using command prompt.

I downloaded Kubuntu 26.04 from the official website and performed a clean installation on my system. Iām happy to confirm that all the issues I was experiencing have now been resolved.
Kubuntu is working perfectly, and the following issues are no longer present:

Lock screen hanging issue has been resolved.

Shutdown and logout options are working normally.
-
The Start menu is functioning as expected.
-
The Switch User option is also working correctly.
-
chrome browser is working fine & screen is not blinking.
Everything is now working as expected after the clean installation.
