Thank you, mouse vs keyboard is so last century made me chuckle.
Thing is, I was never able to middle-click without rotating the wheel and/or moving the mouse - all mice I tried had a way more rigid wheel button than the left or right ones. I am not too keen to do special training for that. Also, it does not work in Konsole. Even if it would, it would not be consistent (working the same way on all files) the same way right-click-then-click-on-first-open-with-item is, unless I change the file associations quite significantly.
One more thing that made me chuckle is that I can have dedicated actions for the second and the third associated apps (middle-click and shift+middle-click), but not for the first one, which is displaced by Run Executable (explicit in Dolphin, implicit in Konsole).
Haha this tickled me - but as a stingy old dude, I never got more expensive than a Logitech, and recently just reverted to cheaper chinese imports.
But one thing’s for sure, if my $5 mouse doesn’t feel right, it doesn’t last long - I’ve actually got a GooJoDoq M21 mouse now, tri-mode (2 BT, 2.4 and Wired) and the middle-click is right under the first joint of my pointer/middle finger.
Thumb buttons are also totally in the right place.
A mouse should disappear, as should the keyboard, so you just look at the screen and ‘s41T happens’ automagically in front of you.
Not mouse grip type, nor wheel placement say anything about the required wheel button press force. If anything, vertical mice trade lateral stability for ergonomics. I reserve my right to indecent mice.
The objective measured force would remain the same, but the amount of effort required to exert that force is completely different.
The relationship of wheel to hand is also likely the most important factor relating to your tendency to roll the wheel as you press it - something I never experienced and never saw mentioned before.
This suggests that the issue is probably extremely uncommon, however much you rationalise it.
It’s true that the left/right buttons are generally easier to trigger - imagine a mousewheel with a very easily triggered button. This would cause more problems for most users wishing to simply roll the wheel.
my entire point was there are mice in the world with 3 actual buttons in addition to a scroll wheel (with it’s own button).
middle click on these mice is the same effort and feel as using either the left of the the right mouse button because it’s a separate physical button instead of being piggy backed onto the scroll wheel button.
