I’ve been working on a Plasma widget for a while now and it’s finally in a decent state to share. Trouble is, I’m not totally sure what the “right” way to put it out there is, so figured I’d ask before I do something dumb.
A few things I’m unsure about:
How do I actually get it listed on kde store? Is it just upload-and-done, or is there some review process first?
Is there a specific forum section/subreddit/Matrix room where people usually post new plasmoids? Don’t want to just dump it wherever and annoy people.
Anything I should double check beforehand — licensing, metadata, naming conventions, stuff like that — so it doesn’t get flagged or taken down?
I’ve seen self-promo posts get yanked by mods in some KDE spaces before (and heard accounts can get locked if it happens repeatedly), so I’d rather ask first than post in the wrong place and get on someone’s bad side lol.
I think getting it on https://store.kde.org/ is going to be the best first step.
As far as I’m aware there is no review process (I don’t remember any and I don’t think KDE has the man power to even start thinking about something like that), but there will be user reviews and I feel they’re a bit harsher on there than they would be on other platforms.
For self promotion, reddit is probably going to be your best bet, at least I see plenty of posts along those lines through the various subreddits.
Just make sure to share your code (github link or similar) and disclose any AI usage, or better yet, don’t have any obviously AI generated code, or people aren’t going to be happy with you.
As usual, if you made something that works, people like and want to use then it’ll probably spread by itself by word of mouth after the initial push.
yep, just create your account on the store and go thru the multi page process of submitting your work… it requires a lot of info and a link to your code repository (usually github).
once it’s finished you are LIVE and free to tell others about your new thing.
and i will echo the warning about AI usage / disclosure… everyone feels under threat from this right now and so swamping ppl with AI generated widgets is not going to go over well.
