Not throwing anything in. Like I said, haven’t used it. Was more of a question.
Don’t think I ever even used a global theme. I have no need for it.
Personally, I use a simple desktop app that uses the commandlines if I wanna switch to whatever…theme. And the files I need for those specific settings, are backed up, either in a cloud or an external.
And um…the topic was about saving plasma themes. So offering a hypothetical solution isn’t exactly…throwing.
Great info! Thanks. I’m interested in this feature as well. What would be the best way for us (end-users) to show renewed interest in getting this feature? Should we just go and comment on that bugs report
page or doing that just muddy the internal discussion?
I’m sure there are plenty of end users also would like this feature, if there can be an effective way for all of use to join together to show our interest, it should get the devs attention.
The best way to show interest, without annoying devs, is to go to the bug report, log in, check “add me to CC list” and click “Save Changes” - without writing anything in the comment box. Please - no “+1 from me” or “I also think this would be a great addition” - just a growing list is CCs is the best indicator that things should be done.
Thanks, done! I just added myself to the CC list.
What docs? It’s pretty hard to find. Do you mean this page here:
develop kde org docs plasma theme quickstart (can’t post links in forum?)
Step 1 says: Copy and rename an existing Plasma Style folder.
If I do that I will blow away all my settings right? I need to copy and rename the existing plasma style folder that I am currently using.
Page states that Themes provided by your distribution are stored in /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/
, while user-installed themes go in ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/
So I go opening every folder to check modification dates. I search for * then sort by mod date. It’s October and everything is dated March or when I installed the OS. Same with ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/ see:
So I really don’t feel comfortable proceeding - is that wrong? Should I proceed? I’m doubtful duplicating this “desktoptheme” folder will be the correct starting point.
Also, it’s in .local and guss said my config is in ~/.config but it’s not purely KDE plasma in there. I can see config files scrolling off the page in root of that, Lots of rc files with no extension. I know my keyboard shortcuts should have extension .kksrc so I search entire system and find nothing in ~ except my manual backup and some old files in /usr/share/kcmkeys
So I’m cooked before I even start.
Unless perhaps my keyboard shortcus are in one these files in ~/.config? But I can see 270 files!
If I sort by date and only look at the files modified this month or last I see:
spectaclerc

Files with (copy) are ones I suspect I am keen to put into my Theme but crikey if I take the most generic most likely one to find in docs kwinrc
it is not even mentioned on that help page.
So I am doube-cooked. I actually thought putting this post together would help me figure it out, but I just confirmed I am hopeless lost with no hope of creating a custom global theme.
