I have a Plasma 6 install. Whenever I plug in some hardware, there is a notification sound. In System settings > Notifications, I have disabled this, but it does not seem to have an effect, there are still sounds. What setting might I have missed?
Check if “Enable notification sounds” is disabled under Colors and Themes - System Sounds.
I have the impression that disabling that indeed stops the sounds playing. However, it does seem like a brute force solution. Would I still get notified with a sound for the events that I allowed sound for (warnings and such)?
Ops I misunderstood, yes my suggestion is overkill. Let me see about it when I get back to my PC!
That would make sense. However, I have it unselected and the chosen (predefined) sound there does not correspond to the ones I’m hearing when plugging/unplugging a usb disk, for example:
However, when I listen to the chosen (predefined) sounds for these events in the system messages/notifications(?), they do correspond. But: I had them unselected and even then I hear the sounds. So it seems that for some reason my selection is not respected.
After restarting the desktop environment, I now do not hear sounds anymore when plugging-in or unplugging devices. Also, when changing the setting to actually play a sound on such events and applying it, I also get no sound. This leads me to believe that this setting only takes effect on desktop environment restart. Could someone test and (dis)confirm this?
