Hi everyone,
I am working on a project with a vertical canvas size of 720x1280. The video contains a centered logo at the top that measures exactly 500x300 pixels.
What I need to do is physically crop/cut the bottom black frame to remove all the huge empty space underneath, so the project canvas shrinks to fit the logo. However, the logo itself must remain completely intact at its original size (500x300) and full quality, without stretching, downscaling, or distorting.
I remember doing this before by expanding some options and changing a bottom value, but now every time I try to change the project profile or apply crop effects, the logo either deforms or turns into a tiny miniature.
What is the correct way in Kdenlive 23.08.5 to physically cut the bottom frame of the canvas without altering the scale of the content?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I am starting at the bottom of your post because I want to make clear we are understanding each other.
The canvas is the project resolution you define before you start your project. You cannot crop the canvas. You can rescale during render but not crop.
You can only crop clips using Edge Crop as suggested by @Eugen_Mohr or Crop, Scale and Tilt (my personal favorite because it allows me to set the crop values individually). A cropped clip put over another clip lets the other clip show through between its (new) edges and the edges of the canvas.
That said,

… you need to create a canvas (or project) with the exact dimensions of the logo. No need to crop anything, it just fits the canvas.
If you want the logo to sit at 500x300 centered at the top of your canvas, you need to do this:
- In Settings > Misc enable Keep clip at original frame size on import
- In the same tab enable Built-in effects
- When adding the logo clip/image to the timeline, expand the (built-in) Transform effect and click on the Center and Align Top icons

You may need to click on the icon the arrow is pointing to if the logo clip was scaled to fit the canvas (this can, unfortunately, happen from time to time).
Hope I understood your problem correctly, and that this helps
