For those looking to enable autoscroll in Chromium, I found an issue in the Steam bug tracker where somebody mentions adding --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll as a start parameter is supported in Chromium. I don’t use it, but perhaps it’s worth a try.
I have been able to test this on Discord and it seems that while it does enable autoscroll, the pasting function is not overridden, so it cannot be used to stop middle-clicks from filling textboxes with random stuff.
I am scratching my head trying to think of any situation where you can autoscroll where you could also middle click to paste text…
Does ‘autoscroll’ work with text documents or something? I know that in Firefox, whilst editing in discourse (like this comment) middle click to paste only works if I do it inside the editing panel, but middle clicking on the webpage will autoscroll it perfectly.
When you have an inactive window and you want to both focus on it and autoscroll with a single mouse 3 click it happens constantly if a quick cursor movement lands in the wrong place, which would be inconsequential without this forced feature. I have multiple monitors and this is something I do a lot. Discord is even worse because doing it also pastes stuff in the textbox even when it’s not selected.
It will probably also be a problem when editing documents or a big article in a wiki, but I use Firefox so I am spared from that at least.
