How to Handle JPEG Sidecars and Large TIFFs Efficiently in digiKam?

I’ve been using Adobe Lightroom Classic for many years, mainly to add photos to Wikipedia. A very useful feature in Canon cameras is the creation of a JPEG sidecar file with the same basename next to the RAW cr2 file. This makes a difference for me because I can view the media very quickly and in other stages of my workflow.

It’s clear to me that Digikam uses the xmp file alongside the BASENAME+EXTENSION, and I’m comfortable with that.

My question is about how to have the same behavior in Digikam regarding:

  1. How to avoid showing the JPEG sidecar file in the preview (without the need to group or always group everything, if possible)?

  2. How to generate a sidecar file for archive images, such as gigantic TIFFs? I have TIFFs over 100MB, and a simple rotation makes Digikam freeze for several seconds (more than 10 seconds).

I found this on Digikam Recipes:

How I open a ticket to ask digikam to consider this an option in settings? I saw every ticket on kde I need to choose the module of digikam, but how I will know which is?

The script can the found in this repo:

PS: First discuss that don’t allow link github…

Another problem: when grouping cr2 and jpg all features is based not for the RAW but for the last file in group, which in this case is the JPG.

Grouping looks like a terrible workaround.
