How to make Brave use the system title bar icons, with tabs on titlebar?

Hi, I am using Fedora Kde for the first time after using Mint Cinnamon for a long time.

In the brave browser, the system toolbar is the following image

But that is not my default kde system titlebar icon.

To make brave have the same titlebar icon I can select the option " use system titlebar and borders" and I get the following image

But there is an issue, which is the tabs below the title bar instead of being on the title bar.

In Mint cinnamon, the tabs used to be on the titlebar instead of being separate .

Example image from when I used to use mint cinnamon

As you can see, the tabs are on the titlebar.

How can I do so on KDE?

Thanks in advance.

I am using fedora 44, KDE 6.7.2

There are essentially two options:

  • the system draws the title bar
  • the app draws the title bar

The first provides the best consistency, e.g. same settings/cons across al windows

The latter the best customizability, e.g. app specific content in the bar, like tabs. In this case it is up to the app (or the library it uses for title bar) to mimic the system title bar.

From the screenshots its looks as if Brave has better emulation of system title bar when running in Cinnamon than it has on Plasma.
Could be something that can be fixed on the app-level, maybe a theme or style setting

Thanks for the reply, on the app level, I have tried everything and nothing seems to fix this.

You could try a wider search, e.g. looking for tips with “chrome” or “chromium” as this might affect all these browsers equally.

Technically the title bar is a so-called “window decoration” so this might also be something to try explicitly.

Some applications (not sure this applies here) use libdecor to render their decorations and it might have have external settings or evironment variable to affect how it is drawing things.

You could also check with the Fedora forum.
The might not install the Plasma support by default, etc.

thanks
lol apparently i need 15 characters

KDE handles titlebars differently than Cinnamon. What you’re looking for is the “Tabs on Titlebar” feature in Brave, but with KDE’s window decorations, it doesn’t always play nice.

Try going to brave://settings/appearance and toggle off “Use system title bar and borders” first, then enable “Tabs on title bar”. If that doesn’t work, you might need to disable KDE’s native titlebar entirely using window rule settings.

Alternatively, right-click on Brave’s titlebar → More Actions → Special Window Settings → Add Property → Titlebar → Force “No Titlebar”. That should let Brave handle its own titlebar with tabs integrated.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply.

Brave doesnt have a “Tabs on title bar” feature to enable.

The second one didn’t do anything
