I have configured the BIOS and the network interface to accept WoL signals.
I have verified that the magic packet sent from my mobile phone is indeed reaching port 9.
When I put the PC into sleep mode or shut it down and send the magic packet, the PC does not wake up.
I notice that in both these states, the RJ45 port LEDs are off on the PC side but on on the switch side.
Does this mean that Kubuntu cuts power to the network interface in these modes, thereby preventing it from receiving the magic packet?
Any insight into this matter would be appreciated.
On my main PC the systemd option works, as the netplan one doesn’t, though that works fine on my other system.
No, assuming that the NIC is fully powered off, that would be your hardware doing it. You may have other BIOS firmware settings to adjust here. A power setting, perhaps? This will be motherboard-specific. For example, mine has no WoL setting, but has one for wake on PCI activity, and one of the energy saving settings will block that if it were enabled as it does fully power off all the hardware.
